With a degree in business management from the University of Costa Rica, and after 12 years in the business world, Giancarlo turned towards social entrepreneurism, or as he prefers to call it, business with a purpose. He is founder of the Magical Trees Foundation, an organization that seeks to be a bridge reconnecting people and nature. As part of this journey he obtained a Masters in Strategic Leadership for Sustainability (MSLS). This experience, with 60 people from 26 countries, had a profound effect on him. Since then he works intentionally to generate collaborative communities.

Along with his father and brother, he has published nearly 10 photography books, including the bestsellers “Costa Rica from Above” and “Magical Trees.” The Pucci publishing company is a Certified B Corporation recognized for its environmental content three times in the report “Best for the World.”

As part of his photographic experience, Giancarlo has exhibited his work in Santiago, Chile, Berlin, Paris and Mexico City. He specializes in impact photography, seeking to generate transformation through his images. He is a finalist in the environmental category of the renowned Big Picture Competition of the San Francisco Museum of Natural History. He is also a jury member of the contest Shoot for the Goal, in collaboration with the United Nations, which seeks to accelerate its objectives of sustainable development through photography. Giancarlo is winner in the environmental category of the 2015 Stephan Schmidheiny prize in Innovation for Sustainability.

In the past decade, he’s had a growing role as a facilitator of processes in social innovation, collaborating with NGOs, businesses, municipalities, government institutions and urban collectives. Some of the methodologies he enjoys most are Theory U, Social Presencing Theater, the Art of Hosting, Empathic Communication and Flow Game. He has been trained in all of these in Costa Rica, Sweden and the U.S. He is currently part of the Timeless Wisdom Training (TWT) with Thomas Hübl, a community of committed practitioners coming together over a two-year period to support one another, to work on personal, group, and ancestral trauma, and to learn conscious growth tools, practices, and methods.


Giancarlo is a co-initiator of citizen movements in his country including ULab, Costa Rica Collaboration and Urban Collectives. He is a brand ambassador for Costa Rica and a global ambassador for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance. Giancarlo is part of the faculty of the Presencing Institute, an organization active in multi-sector innovation.
